A Green Compass for Knokke-Heist

At the heart of Knokke-Heist, the Driehoeksplein has been transformed into a permanent green oasis — a sculpted landscape where nature and art converge. Around Wim Delvoye’s striking Rose des Vents, we created a contemporary parterre that reinterprets classical garden traditions in bold, organic circles of evergreen structure.

With over 2,500 Japanese hollies, 1,000 false hollies, and a carefully curated palette of sustainable trees and perennials, the square has become a living artwork. Red gravel paths weave between glossy Photinia, loquat, and holly, while precise geometry frames the central fountain and sculpture.

This design not only enhances the beauty of the square but also provides a durable, climate-resilient green lung for the city. A computer-driven irrigation system ensures smart water management, making the garden as sustainable as it is sculptural.

It is a proud step into the public realm: a landscape meant to be lived with, walked through, and admired daily — a poetic invitation for residents and visitors to gather, breathe, and connect.
