A New Chapter in Bloom

Botanical installations for the reopening of Nihombashi Mitsukoshi in Tokyo

TokyoKengo Kuma | Mitsukoshi

To celebrate the reopening of Nihombashi Mitsukoshi following its architectural renewal by Kengo Kuma, Daniel Ost created an immersive series of floral installations throughout the historic department store.

A monumental white orchid sculpture unfolded beneath the crystalline geometry of the redesigned interior, while cascades of richly coloured Vanda orchids transformed staircases, columns and architectural thresholds. Sculptural arrangements and intricate botanical objects extended the experience across the retail spaces and window displays.

Balancing Japanese precision with expressive floral abundance, the installations formed a dialogue between heritage and modernity—marking a new chapter for one of Tokyo’s most iconic destinations.
