It Is Not What It Seems

A surreal botanical intervention by Nele Ost for Flower Time Brussels

Belgium

For Flower Time Brussels, Nele Ost transformed a historic office into a scene where order gradually surrendered to nature. Inspired by the surrealist world of René Magritte, the installation questioned the boundary between reality and illusion, control and abandon.

Mountains of documents, correspondence and administrative papers appeared to have accumulated over time, only to become fertile ground for flowers. Slender stems, wild blossoms and tangled greenery emerged from desks, chairs and forgotten files, spreading organically through the room as though nature had quietly reclaimed the space.

Familiar yet unsettling, poetic yet playfully absurd, the installation invited visitors to look twice: this was no longer simply an office, and nothing was quite what it seemed.
